Four reasons:
- Brand specific parts. Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu and LG use proprietary parts that are not interchangeable. Not every repair company stocks them.
- Inverter technology. Most modern mini splits use inverter compressors and variable speed electronics, which cost more to diagnose and replace than the single speed parts in older AC units.
- Multiple indoor units. Multi zone systems have 2 to 5 indoor heads, each with its own electronics. Issues often trace to one specific head, but finding which one takes longer.
- Refrigerant handling. Line sets are often 25 to 75 feet long, and leaks can be harder to locate.
Common Mini Split Issues We Diagnose
- Error codes on the indoor unit. Most mini splits display fault codes. We carry manufacturer specific code books and can often diagnose remotely before the visit.
- Water leaking from the indoor unit. Usually a clogged condensate drain, sometimes a failed condensate pump.
- Indoor head not responding to the remote. Remote battery, the sensor on the head, or a circuit board issue.
- System runs but no heat or cool. Often refrigerant related, sometimes the reversing valve on heat pump models.
- Outdoor unit not starting. Capacitor, contactor or control board.
